Let me ask you something...
When someone insults you, what happens to you?
Do you get offended?
Does it hit the heart?
Do you clench your fist out of anger?
All of these are a product of the EGO.
When we take things personally, we feel attacked.
We see nothing but red.
Anger clouds the mind.
We want to cause harm to the individual who insulted us.
All of this stemmed from your EGO taking things personally.
That's the thing, it's not you that took it personally, it was your EGO.
So how do we stop taking things PERSONALLY?!
Here's how:
1. It's not about you.
- The person who insulted you, may not have meant it. They could be having a bad day. This doesn't justify them insulting you, but the point is maybe you're not the problem.
2. It is about you.
- Contrary to point 1, maybe you are the problem. So what do we do if we are? If the insult does hold a sense of truth, learn from it, and use it constructively.
3. Stop listening to the opinions of others.
- The opinions of others are OPINIONS, not facts. Again, use it constructively if you believe there is truth in these opinions. However, if there is no value or truth in these opinions, simply ignore them.
Do you understand?
